As an Independent artist Zara Sykes’s musical achievements are somewhat to be desired performing with Adina Howard on her smash hit ‘freak like me’ opening concerts for major artists Mary J Blige, Angie Stone, Jon B, Melba Moore, Mario Winas and Performing at Olympics 2012, festivals including London Pride, Birmingham Pride, Nottingham Mela, Lfest, Zara sure does know how to please an audience.
In 2017 Zara teamed up with Gjiggy Clique Productions to released a hard hitting track and video called ‘The Right’ which highlights Domestic violence and Child Abuse. The video Stars Sophina Khan, Alice Smith and Natalie Utopia Dance. Zara said: “Lets break the silence”. Also this year Zara has campaigned and performed with Love Music Hate Racism as part of Standing up to Racism. She also did a project with a group of young people and Crib316 called Unarmed to highlight Hate Crime.
In November 2016 Zara Sykes teamed up with Regents Street Records releasing 5 hit singles: Feel good, Collide, Shadow, Losing Time and Winner these have been taking from the album ‘Contagious’ which will be available in 2018. Contagious features the Grammy nominated Producer Paul Horton, Reggae legends eye to Eye the critically acclaimed duo Soundmasters, Andy Wann, Jermaine Redstaar and Raju Mali, with the voices of Yelitza, Tiffany, Vanessa Pearson, Tarnia Sturridge, Cassie Reid and KID bringing a variety of flavours to appease her audiences.
In 2014 Zara Sykes received her first official award ‘Inspiring Entertainment & Achievement Award’ this was awarded by ‘Be inspired’ Youth Award in Association with Somewhereto and AJN’s Annual Gala
In 2015 and 2016 Zara performed at the Movie Video Screen Awards MViSA Awards at the ICC in celebrating British Actors. This is the biggest movie awards show in the uk and in 2016 MViSA celebrated its 10th year.
In 2012 Zara was part of a project with Bcity collective celebrating diversity the video has two versions, one is SignSong and features the amazing Jane Flecture.
Zara Sykes more recently hosted at VIP Rooms in Rotterdam, Holland with celebrity DJ Dave Roelvink alongside Miss Holland 2007 and CEO of Music Model Agency DJ Melissa Sneekes as well as hosting at Lust Meets Envy.
Zara Sykes has had featured articles in DIVA Magazine, The Birmingham Mail and The Voice and this has certainly raised the profile of this artist.
Where it began: Zara Sykes is a Rap artist, Songwriter, entertainer and host who was born and raised in Birmingham (United Kingdom). She began writing songs/poems at the age of 9 years old and clearly has no intention of slowing down. Once in her teens, Zara Sykes truly began to take her art-form seriously this female has no intention of being pigeon-holed.
“I just wanted to write poems, songs and rhymes, as I got older, I began to understand that this was my way of getting my thoughts and feelings out. I heard rap songs and knew that was what I wanted to do”.
From the get-go, Zara Sykes has set out to make her mark. For her first talent show Zara Sykes was brought on stage in a straight jacket! This was symbolic of breaking out of boxes. No doubt a sign of things to come!
